DNSChanger attack.......

DNSChanger Malware

The Domain Name System (DNS) works like a telephone book for the internet, changing domain names into numerical Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. When you enter a domain name (such as 'www.staysmartonline.gov.au') into your web browser, the computer contacts the DNS servers to find the IP address that corresponds to the domain name (for example, 172.16.254.1).

Your computer then uses this IP address to connect to the website you are looking for. The DNS servers you use are usually operated by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and form part of the network which connects your computer to the internet.

Without the DNS and DNS servers, you would not be able to access websites, send e-mail, or use many other internet services.

Criminals have learned that if they can control DNS servers, they can control which sites a user connects to on the internet. By controlling a user's DNS, a criminal can cause an internet user to unknowingly access fraudulent or malicious content, or otherwise interfere with a user's web browsing.

One way criminals do this is by infecting computers with a type of malicious software (malware) called DNSChanger. The DNSChanger malware replaces a user's DNS settings with settings that connect to 'rogue' DNS servers.

In November 2011, the FBI closed down a ring of cyber criminals who are believed to have been responsible for the worldwide spread of DNSChanger. An estimated four million users were affected worldwide. The FBI worked with the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to set up and operate a correct, temporary DNS solution so that these users would not lose their internet access when the malicious DNS servers were taken down.

This temporary DNS solution gives users infected with DNSChanger the opportunity to remove the infection before the temporary solution is switched off on 9 July 2012. After this date, users infected by DNSChanger will not be able to access internet services.

What DNSChanger does to your computer

DNSChanger alters your computer's DNS settings to replace your 'default' DNS settings with settings that connect to the rogue DNS servers. DNSChanger also attempts to access devices on your network such as your router and change their DNS settings so that they connect to the rogue DNS servers.

This means that all the computers on your network can be affected by DNSChanger, even if they are not directly infected with the malware.

How to detect and remove MAC OSX Flashback Trojan

Until now apple company product's are the secured ones, which are free from viruses, worms etc. But now a Trojan called Flashback/Flashfake has targeted MAC OS platforms and infected nearly 700,000 mac PC's. Which is combined with botnet and capable of stealing personal information.

While surfing the net if it displays wrong search results or asking to install an update then know that you are infected and the program passess the victim's ip address and UUID to the author of that trojan.

“The Flashback Trojan is a wake-up call for everyone who’s online – no matter what platform or device they use,” said Norton Internet Safety Advocate Marian Merritt.

How to Detect:

Through the kaspersky's flashbackcheck database, copy and paste your Hardware UUID and know that you are infected or not.To find your UUID, select the menu item "About this Mac" in Finder and choose "More info …" Find "Hardwire UUID" in the window that opens, and copy its value to the clipboard.

How to remove:

Norton offers a detection and removal tool for this Flashback Trojan or use Bitdefender's tool, get it through APP Store.

How to disable or remove facebook timeline : TimeLineRemove

Facebook activated timeline permanently in the last year. Before it became mandatory they offered to revert back their old style, but many of us are liked and sticked to it and few wants their old profile look back.


There is a way to get back your old profile by using your internet browser add-on/extension TimelineRemove. It removes the timeline feature from all facebook profiles. It is available for major browsers like IE, Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

Microsoft Store India has been defaced by Hackers

Micorsoft Store India has been defaced by a Evil Shadow Team Members (ps.s.blog.163.com). Check the first report about it by WPSAUSE. Microsoft was informing the customers through emails and their password will be temporarily resets. After the website was compromised i has taken offline indicating that it has gained contorl over it.

If you open the MS Store page it shows(the following image). They have confirmed that databases storing credit card details and payment information were not affected during this compromise. The reason it that usernames and passwords are stored in plain text.

If you connect your mail-id and using the same username and password on any other sites then you must change your password. You can read more about it here....

The repair process removes and replaces damaged files found during the scan. During repair, Reimage not only removes damage, but also reverses the damage done to your Windows OS by replacing corrupted and deleted files with fresh Windows files and components from their continuously updated online database.

What Does Reimage Not Fix?

• 3rd Party Programs

3rd party programs are programs that are not included or provided with the Windows OS. Examples of such programs include Microsoft (MS) Office, Skype, Adobe Software, ICQ, Winamp, Mozilla Firefox, iTunes, Non-MS Games, Windows Genuine Advantage Validation.

• Virus Protection

Reimage is not an Antivirus application, nor does it repair compromised or damaged Antivirus software.

• Hardware Problems

The preliminary scan assembles your overall hardware profile - Hard Drive (HD), Random Access Memory (RAM), Central Processing Unit (CPU) - and recommends parts that may need to be replaced in order to maximize your system performance. However, Reimage does not fix hardware issues.
